USCG Captain, Paul Cave

Captain Paul Cave has had a passion for fishing since he was a young boy, now Paul is a full time, professional, USCG licensed guide. Captain Paul has fly-fished the Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River Lagoon System for the past 25 years. Captain Paul Cave Having lived and worked in Southeast and East Central Florida since the 1980’s, he knows the waters and the fish like only a handful of fishermen could ever hope to.  Paul now lives a stones throw away form shores of the world famous Mosquito Lagoon which allows him to maximize his time on the water.  Paul loves to guide others, but when he does have a day without guests on his boat, he loves to fly-fish.

“To me, sight fishing with the fly rod is the ultimate challenge. Silently stalking a redfish, positioning the boat for the cast, seeing the fly-fisher make the presentation, and then the boil, the hookup, the release... this is truly a thrill.”

Paul does it all when it comes to fly-fishing. Trout on fly Though the Mosquito Lagoon is home, he spends time each summer guiding fly-fishers for trout on the Davidson River in the Pisga National Forest of Western North Carolina. As one of a select few, Paul guides on the private trophy section of the Davidson River managed by Davidson River Outfitters. On this exclusive section of the river the number of fly-fishers is strictly limited producing frequent catches of excellent trout. Paul also guides throughout the surrounding area both drift boating and wading. For more information about the Davidson River experience check out their web site at www.davidsonflyfishing.com.

Paul also frequents the Bahamas with his brother, Jon Cave, who hosts bonefishing expeditions with fly-fishers who Captain Paul with Bahamas Bonefish are learning to apply the daily instructional sessions to their “on the water” bonefishing.  Additional expeditions include overnight camping with guided fishing for bass and bream on the St. Johns River, and trout fishing expeditions to Georgia and the Carolinas. For more information contact Paul at 407-718-7920.

Paul is an excellent fly casting instructor and welcomes novice fly-fishers. Captain Paul will provide first class fly-fishing equipment including TFO fly rods and matched Tibor reels. Paul's Gordon Boatworks Waterman 16' provides a dry, comfortable ride and access to very shallow flats where few can go.

For those who prefer, light tackle spin fishing is also great fun when sight fishing the Mosquito Lagoon, Indian River Lagoon or Sebastian Inlet.

Paul will be pleased to guide light tackle enthusiasts who would like to experience the thrill of sight fishing for reds, sea trout, and the other species that inhabit the Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River Lagoon System.
